PD Movie Choices - Submarine

Submarine is a movie I’ve been wanting to watch since I saw the trailer for it sometime in 2011. Early to mid 2011 I believe. Well, I finally got around to seeing it and since I haven’t reviewed a movie in a while, I’d thought I’d start again with this one. Because I love reviewing movies. I’m not a critic. I’m just a guy who loves movies on a extremely personal level and likes to swear a lot. There isn’t much of those type of reviews on the internet. Well, not that many good ones. I hope I can be one of the good ones. Anyway, on to my review of Submarine, directed by Richard Ayoade.

I really liked the movie. I’m a sucker for coming of age and comedy-dramas. This movie was right up my alley. Quirky, self aware boy falls in love and then gets his heart shat on all while trying to save his parent’s marriage? Sign me up, nigga! Craig Roberts’ acting was great. I connected with the character in a way I didn’t expect. Well, I didn’t expect to connect at all, really. That is, the way Craig’s character was pretty self aware and analyzed shit in his head is kinda something I do.

Soundtrack and score both fit the film really nicely. The way it was edited caught my eye. A lot of scenes used some quick cuts. Helped balance the pace of a genre that usually has slow moving stories. The use of titles was also pretty cool. The story is split in 5, separated by giant Blue (or red on one occasion), helvetica-ish font on black. Prologue, Part One, Two, Three, Epilogue. I assume that’s how the book Submarine is based off is structured. I don’t know, I didn’t read it and probably never will.

In Which I Answer Your Questions: May The Fourth Be With You Edition

Time for another post where I answer your silly, silly questions. Happy Star Wars Day, everyone! *Disclaimer: None of these questions are about Star Wars or Star Wars Day. In fact, none of these questions are even remotely related to space in general.

Q: Are you a road trip kinda guy? If so would you be willing to do a road trip along the east coast?

A: Not really. I hate long drives. And sitting in one spot for too long causes me a lot of pain. Though, the idea of an east coast road trip sounds really cool. And with the right people, it could be more bearable.

This was one of the three questions that were left over from last week’s AMA. It’s truth, I can’t stand long car rides. I went to Orlando a few months ago to go see a concert. The pain I experience not even half way there was… something vicious.

Q: you’re cute! :D

A: Not a question, but thank you, anon. I know if many people would agree. I wouldn’t :P

Not sure who asked this, but thank you for the ego inflation, anon. It has to be someone I know. Or at the very least follows me on Twitter or watches my YouTube stuff because I don’t have any photos of myself on my blog.

A Photo Story: My Nutshell
”A Photo Story” is a little feature I’m going to start doing here on my blog. I’ll choose an image, usually one of my own, and talk about it. If it’s one of my own images, I’ll tell the story behind it or how it came to be. On some occasions I may choose an image I find on the web. I hope you enjoy this little look into my photography schtuffs.
This image I call “My Nutshell”. I honestly just named it right before writing this post. I find the image to be pretty auto biographical; in some ways that I didn’t even think of at first while shooting it. The name came from two things. The first, just the simple thought of “this picture is pretty much me in a nutshell”. The second, I’ve been rewatching Scrubs lately, and each episode is named “My *something*” so I just ended up going with “My Nutshell”. Now onto the poor analysis part.
I took this photo when doing my first photography assignment. I was using a Canon SLR. That’s right, no “D”. This was a 35mm film based SLR. I looked over to my night stand and noticed that what was on it told a lot about me. My X&Y vinyl being my love for Coldplay and music in general. The slate is obviously my film career and the mushrooms are my geeky-ness and love of video games.
That’s the basic stuff though. Something I didn’t really realize at first was how the in focus shroom has his head on crooked. I like to think that represents my crazy. My constant talking to myself (both in my head and aloud), my talking to myself as if I were other people/talking to inanimate objects, my neurotic like tendencies, and of course, my fucked up outlook on everything. Yay, I’m crazy! But that isn’t a bad thing. Everyone is broken, just in different ways. I like to think this image doesn’t focus on how I’m broken, but on what keeps me grounded, what keeps me sane, what I enjoy about life.
There you go. First Photo Story success I think. More soon. Until then, head to my photography page, look at the images, tell me what you think, and maybe even suggest which one you would like to see a photo story on. I have a few lined up but I’ll happily take suggestions. Thanks and goodbye.

In Which I Answer Your Questions (Part 2)

Being bored in class for 4 hours means I have all the time in the world to answer crazy ass questions from anons. I kinda like doing this, so I might do it more often. Or make it a video series. I don’t know, I’ll figure it out as I go. Anyway, I got more questions this time around. Some with information the public probably didn’t really want to know. Oh well. I don’t cuuuuurr.

Q: Heyyy! Where do you study?

A: I got to school at Miami International University of Art and Design.

Simple question. Nothing that isn’t already public knowledge. I had to giggle when i read this question considering what has been going through my head lately about school. Stuff I won’t go into. Yet. Maybe in a video.

Q: Im at your school Daviddd!! Do I have any chance with you even if Im a guy? Lol

A: Nah, sorry. I like titties too much. I’m flattered though.

I wasn’t kidding about that last part. A compliment is a compliment. I don’t care who it comes from. It’s not a common thing for someone to imply they find me even a moderately interesting person or attractive.

Q: WHERE DO I READ THE ANSWEEEERSSSS :(

A: Answers get posted individually at first then get combined into one post later in the day.

Oooooooh. Someone was getting impatient. Well, here you go, anon. This is where you can see the answers.

In Which I Answer Your Questions

So, last night I was bored and I linked out my ask page and requested people ask me things. Anything. Anonymous or not. I’ll answer it. Well, I got some takers. Since I don’t like how Tumblr handles questions, I’m making it so all questions get combined into one blog post. This is that post. You can still ask me anything at anytime. Just head to my ask page.

Q: Ever had sex? Ever even made out with a girl?

A: First, no. Second, yes.

I can’t help but think the person who asked this one is incredibly immature. I honestly could care less, so I had no problem answering it. But, seriously, how old are we that we care if someone else has ever had sex? 12?

Q: Who the FUCK would create a paint blob puzzle?

A: Same type of people who solve them: someone who hates their life.

This one is referring to a puzzle I was doing with a couple of friends. You can see the finished product here. It was a pain in the ass.

Q: Have you ever had sex with a female chiguagua?

A: Nah, dude. I’m a cat person.

Valid question, I think. Pointed out in the comments was that they spelled chihuahua wrong. But that’s all the questions, so yeah. Feel free to ask more. I’ll make another answer post.
